Chapter 14: The bird's colour

-How much time do we have left? -Onix asked finally, after the minutes of silence that followed after Rezler's story-
Tomorrow morning, they plan to execute us on the electric chair. Taking into account that it's surely night, i don't think we have more than five or six hours... ten at the most. -said Rezler, sad-. If only i could have spent some more time with my little Mapryd... i hope he's alright. Raplos often can take care of themselves since they are born, if they don't run into certain predators, that is.

Only three hours after the conversation between the two men, who were now in a state of deep digression and sadness, a loud sound came into their eardrums as if it was a full speed train... the explosion not only broke the silence, but also caused a little beam of light, coming from the Sun's shy brightness at dawn and imperceptible for anyone whose sight wasn't adapted to darkness, to burst in the cell's blackness.
Then, outside's calm was replaced by an intense shooting and a helicopter's noise.
-Hey Onix! Have you noticed? It seems there's a mess outside!
-How can we hear this much a helicopter if we are in a closed enclosure?
-Come here, boy, it's our opportunity!
Rezler didn't hesitate and ran where the beam of light was. Without a doubt, the cell's door seemed very damaged, and the old hunter was deeply optimistic about that great stroke of luck. With a whistle caused by the explosion still on his ears, he called Onix to open together those deformed remains that were a steady metallic door before. The warlock made a little effort to get up overcoming his pain, and helped out Rezler pushing the door. In some seconds, the door gave way and let them see, with surprise, the outside scene.

Just beside the cell in which the two prisoners were before, on the right side of the door, there was a huge hole made by some kind of explosive. Undoubtedly, the luck of being assigned that cell, so close from the exterior facade, was which allowed them to get out of there with a simple shove on the bashed door. They hadn't much time to get distracted with observations, since far away on their left (a long corridor full of metallic doors which presumably had other prisoners inside), a great group of guards, the number of which was increasing, fired incessantly on the hole's direction... outside of which there was a helicopter floating in the air, a well armed and great armored helicopter facing threateningly the inside of the building. The corridor turned in an "L" form, being the shortest part of this the perfect barricade for the guards to retire in case of enemy attack.
Onix and Rezler had little time to go back to heir old cell seeing the dangerous rain of bullets in which they got without even willing to... from there they could observe stunned how the helicopter, seeing as it's machine gun bursts were useless due to the good hideout the guards had, it fired a huge misile to the back of the corridor, causing later an incredible explosion that made the roof and walls staggle, and without a doubt finished definitely with the group of guards on that moment. Taking advantage of the moments of truce, the helicopter turned to one side and from it two persons jumped without delay, who arriving to the door of the open cell, they couldn't help but feel surprised seeing Onix and Rezler watching in silence, but they didn't stop for a long while since they seemed to be carrying out an important mission.
Onix deduced quickly that they were two women, even though actually the only evidence was their anatomy, they wore tight black camouflage outfits, with balaclava of the same colour. One, who seemed younger, had long, bright and straight dark hair, while the other, of less height and a roughly treated body due to the age, had a braid of plentiful grey hair. Both were armed, the first one with two silvery guns and the second one with a heavy automatic assault rifle.

-Adrigo! -both women shouted constantly, almost at the same time. From practically all the doors, affirmative answers started to be heard, in a desperate attempt to trick the liberators and take advantage from the rescue-
-...Which is the bird's colour, Adrigo?!
To such a disconcerting question from the youngest hooded woman, half of the prisoners answered the most typical colours of the native birds they knew. Others stayed in silence as if they sensed the trick, while only one answered:
"The pigeon's colour is bloody-red"
-Adrigo! -the girl went cheerfully to the door after which the correct answer was said, in front of Onix and Rezler's cell but some metres to the left- Thank god we found you! Wait, keep yourself far from the door and i'll take you out.
-I'm glad you came, Moon. -the prisoner said through the door, lowering his voice-
-Shh! Don't be over-confident, no one should hear my name here.
-The reinforcements are already coming! -shouted the woman armed with an assault rifle, behind Moon, as she began shooting constantly to the corridor's corner, keeping the attackers at bay-
-Okey! Cover me some seconds.

Which saw Onix then caused him a huge shock. Him and Rezler were still safe on their cell, watching outside carefully not knowing well how to act. Then the warlock perceived for a second something particular surrounding that young hooded woman's body, something which was very familiar to him... the girl put the complete palm of her right hand, unarmed, against the door's reinforced handle, after which the mission's objective was. Which was surprising was that, after her whole body emited that weak brilliance that Onix identified quickly still not fully believing it, her hand seemed to transmit a powerful wave of heat of extreme temperature which expanded slowly around her hand, until most of the door was partially melted and red hot.
Then the girl walked some steps away, raised her left hand and emptied her gun's magazine on the weakened area, breaking it into pieces, until she could open the door without problems. From it a young man appeared, not older than twenty and some years old, medium height, grey eyes and short blonde hair, kind of orangish. He gave a warm but quick hug to his liberator once he was out, and accepted Moon's second gun.
-My ammunition isn't infinite, guys, you'll have to support me, let's go! -said the woman who shot her rifle constantly, a little bit worried about the probably increasing number of guards that were sheltering behind the corner-

Everything happened really fast. Practically at the same time she finished that sentence, the woman fell violently backwards, leaving a trail of blood on the air. Onix had time to check then that the man standing on the other side of the corridor seemed a member of the elite forces of Aklas... bulletproof vest, without a doubt, and semi-automatic machine guns with penetrating bullets, capable of going through anything. Or almost.
The warlock was fast, and casted one of his magic barriers in front of where now was lying the old woman with rifle, dying. It was enough to stop the following burst of bullets, which was going to finish Moon and her comrade undoubtedly. Then Onix saw satisfied, how the soldier hesitated some seconds after seeing astonished how his bullets were desintegrating, while his colleagues without bulletproof vest, before sheltered and safe from the automatic rifle of the invaders, came out to unite on the offensive. The warlock used those precious seconds: he came out quickly to the center of the corridor and took the fallen rebel's rifle and, while he deactivated his exhausting barrier, riddled with no mercy all those naive soldiers that came from their hideout thinking the situation was safe. Standing still was, of course, the elite soldier and, Onix thought, more wouldn't take a long time to join him. On the very moment when he aimed, infuriated, to the warlock, Onix activated his usual bulletproof barrier around him, and sprinted wildly towards the attacker. The soldier almost ran away when, after amptying a whole magazine of his rifle in that lunatic who ran like a kamikaze towards him, didn't manage to stop him... but he had no time. An incredible kick on the face caused him to get expelled until he collided with the wall behind him and lost consciousness.

-Be careful, Onix!
Rezler warned Onix in time. The corridor's corner structure had been undoubtedly damaged due to the helicopter's misile impact from moments ago, but the soldier's collision with the wall was the last straw, and that roof's area fell down loudly, being Onix only able to escape inside the corridor with a quick somersault.

Now, Onix was completelly trapped on the other side, separated from Rezler and who, indirectly, released him.
