Chapter 9: Caged confessions

When Onix was about to go back to his tank to go nowhere, Rezler kept him, and expressed his wish of travelling with him to any village...any that could provide raplos breeders and sellers. The old hunter remembered then, with little precision, the popular topic that on the south of the continent used to be most of the raplos farms.
Onix, quite happy to have something to fill his life with from that moment on, accepted Rezler's suggestion. Rezler, satisfied, held out his hand to the one who wanted to kill him once. Onix, confused, shook hands with him, and that's how started the unexpected friendship between two persons previously divided by destiny, but now united by the deepest solitude.

The two men's obective didn't take long to frustrate. When they got into the tank, along with Mapryd, Onix turned on the engine and to his surprise, the tank's internal computer did so too simultaneously.
-Why did you turn the GPS on, Onix? Is it that you already have a destination to go to?
-I didn't even know this had GPS.
Suddenly, both passengers got frightened when they heard the strong seal of the upper hatch, which left them completelly locked with no possibilities to escape, and they noticed with horror that the machine was starting up by itself as well... and, for what they could see on the navigation screen, the destination was the fearsome megacity of Aklas.

-There's no way -said Rezler- this hatch won't open even if we tried for another half an hour. Maybe if we had more room...
-I imagined this would happen. -said Onix- i have been certainly stupid not to prevent something like this. I should have destroyed all of that informatic junk when i had the opportunity... from here it's imposible, since a sword can't cross the armor with so little space in here.
Rezler stared at him in silence, worried. Onix fixed his eyes on him.
-Kill me.
-What?!
-Simply do it, Rezler. You know i preffer it this way.
-No way, i told you i don't...
-Don't be frightened by sentence. -said the assasin forcefully- No one is going to punish you for having killed a dangerous warlock like me. On the contrary, they would put medals on you.
-You don't understand. -said Rezler with severity- I'm not going to kill anyone, be it warlock or not. Plus, nothing of medals: besides being considered your accomplice on your escape, they will identify me the moment we arrive... they will know i was deserter almost thirty years ago.

Onix, impassive and with his eyes fixed on the small gap of the tank, saw they were approaching the secondary roads by which he previously escaped on the opposite way not so long ago. He was surprised by his fellow traveler's revelation, but he showed no expression on his face.
-The story of my time on the army is quite long. -said Rezler- I'm going to tell you, now that we don't have anything to do anyway. But, i want you to tell me something before... Why in earth was the damn Aklas police force chasing you? Can you tell what did you do there that caused so much fuss?
-I simply did my work. -said Onix- The objective was Runios Palem, president of the DUC party.
-What?! -asked Rezler, surprised- Have you killed the Democratic Unionist Center's president in the middle of a meeting of the electoral campaign?
-It isn't as hard as it seems, -replied Onix- if you have a good plan. Of course, the escape is a different matter.
-You don't have to tell... -said Rezler- Who's that "boss" you have on your mobile phone directory? It's the only number you have saved. Are you telling me that the same man who wanted to kill the DUC president was also looking for my extermination?
-I guess so. Anyway, i know nothing about the one i worked for, and in all honesty i never cared much. I'm not in the mood to talk about that, sincerely. Weren't you going to tell me a long story? Well then, go ahead.
